Mine Safety Advisory Council (MSAC)
MSAC is the peak advisory body for work health and safety (WHS) in the mining and extractives industries including gas exploration and drilling in NSW. It has the stated aim of leading these industries to world leading WHS practice.
MSAC has produced guidance material on a range of subjects including fatigue management; preventing and managing musculoskeletal disorders at work; assessment tools for vulnerable workers and contractors; a review of safety incentive schemes; associated non-technical skills (ANTS) and cultural change in the mining and extractives industries.
NSW Department of Trade and Investment, Division of Resources and Energy
This department is responsible for the governance of the mining and extractives industries in NSW. Its website contains many useful guides and fact sheets on WHS and risk management in mining.

Safe Work Australia (SWA)
SWA is responsible for the Commonwealth government’s work health and safety program including strategic direction and the newly implemented Model Work Health and Safety (WHS) Act. This forms the basis of the WHS Acts being enacted across Australia to harmonise work health and safety law. The site contains information on each jurisdiction’s progress in implementing the new laws. It has produced guidance material on this.

WorkCover Authority of NSW (WCA NSW)
WCA NSW administers and oversees work health and safety; licensing and registration; workers compensation insurance; workers compensation benefits; and sustainable return to employment for injured workers.
Its website contains many useful guides and fact sheets on WHS and the implementation of the new Work Health and Safety laws.

Human Factors and Ergonomics Society of Australia Inc (HFESA)
The HFESA is the professional body for ergonomics and human factors specialists in Australia. It runs conferences and professional development events in each state and the ACT. It has a number of special interest groups and welcomes non-members and visitors to all its events.
